京都国立近代美術館、水戸芸術館で開催されたスイスを拠点とする美術家・ピピロッティ・リストによる個展のグラフィックデザイン。 不定形の切り抜きによって矩形の直線を打ち消すような立体的コラージュ、ひとつながりの長い帯の一部を切り取る見せ方、 サンセリフ体とスクリプト体の混植、という複数のデザインルールの組み合わせで構成することにより、さまざまなアイテムへの柔軟な展開が可能になっている。 デザインルールはそれぞれ、スクリーンの矩形から解き放たれた空間的拡がりのあるビデオ展示、映像の時間的連続性、既成概念からの逸脱、といった作家の特性をグラフィック言語に翻訳したもの。 元となる作品の表層的なスタイルを真似たり、逆にデザイナー自身の造形スタイルを覆い被せたりするのではない形で、展覧会グラフィックを制作することの可能性に挑戦した。

Graphic design for the solo exhibition of Switzerland-based artist Pipilotti Rist, held at The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and Art Tower Mito. A flexible deployment for various items is made possible by using a combination of multiple design rules like three-dimensional collages in which asymmetrical cutouts negate the rectangular straight lines, the presentation of cut-out strips from a section of a long continuous strip, and using mixed typesetting of both san-serif and script typefaces. The design rules are each a graphical translation of the artist’s characteristics of having spatially expansive video displays that deviates from the rectangular shape of a screen, the temporal continuity of the videos and departure from established concepts. It was an attempt to challenge the possibilities of creating exhibition graphics in a way that goes beyond simply imitating the superficial style of the original artwork or overlaying the designer's own visual style.
